Local knitters are being asked to help create thousands of handmade woolly poppies to decorate a town ahead of this year's Remembrance commemorations.

Thatcham Town Council said it wanted to create a "heartfelt display" across the whole town to remember service personnel killed during conflicts.

The council said it planned to "adorn benches, trees and other public spaces with vibrant knitted or crocheted poppies".

Workshops to help make the poppies are being held in the council chamber for three hours from 10:00 BST on 31 October and 4 November.

It is hoped residents, groups and clubs will make enough poppies together to also create a large centre-piece display.

Finished poppies for the town's display need to be dropped off to the council offices on Brownsfield Road by 1 November.
