Murder arrest after man shot dead in north London
A 56-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man in his 40s was shot dead in north London.
Officers were called to Waltheof Gardens, Tottenham, at 09:00 BST on Tuesday following reports of a shooting.
Police attended alongside the London Ambulance Service and found a man with a gunshot injury. He died at the scene.
The arrested man remains in police custody.
Det Ch Insp Linda Bradley said: “We are yet to formally identify the victim of this tragic incident.
"We will continue to carry out efforts to ensure his family are informed and supported by specialist officers."
Mohammed Bahar lives close to where the stabbing took place.
"I saw so many police cars and ambulances," he told BBC London.
"Waltheof Gardens is very quiet.
"I've lived here since 2003 and everybody has been very happy with the area," he added.
"We are feeling a bit insecure."
Det Ch Supt Caroline Haines, who is in charge of policing for the north London area, said she was "devastated" by the loss of life.
"I want to reassure that we have a team of specialist officers already working diligently to establish the circumstances of this shooting," she said.
She added there would be an increased police presence in the area as officers "carry out vital inquiries".
Anyone with information should contact police.
