Tributes to fan fatally injured on way to game

The family of a Sheffield United fan who died after being hit by a car on the way to a match have said they are "devastated" by his loss.

Jordan Hattersley, 36, was walking to Bramall Lane ahead of the Championship club's home game with Sunderland on 29 November when he was struck by a red Lexus on Suffolk Road.

The father-of-one, who had been with his dad and two younger siblings at the time, died in hospital earlier this month, South Yorkshire Police said.

Police have renewed their appeal for witnesses to the collision.

In a statement issued through the police, Mr Hattersley's father Richard said his son, who was born in Sheffield before moving to Rotherham as a teenager, was "devoted" to Sheffield United.

"It was his main outlet after his family," he said. "He was following his passion, and at the matches he was an inspiration and role model to his brother and sister.

"We are all devastated by his loss."

Computer engineer Mr Hattersley had married his partner, Kirsty, in June this year.

She described him as an "all-round good person" who had given the "gift of life this Christmas" through donating his organs to others after he had died.

She said: "We thought we had time. We should have had time.

"We were at the height of our relationship, on cloud nine and just high on life and it's all been ripped away in a split second."

Officers have asked for anyone with dashcam footage of the incident to come forward and speak to them.
