Woman found dead after fire in house

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding a fatal house fire

A woman has died following a house fire in Greater Manchester.

Police said they were called to the home on Roundthorn Road, Middleton, at about 04:20 GMT on Sunday.

A woman aged in her 30s was found dead inside, with other emergency services also attending the scene.

Greater Manchester Police said: "An investigation is under way to establish the circumstances."

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service area manager Lee Coleman said five engines from stations across the region attended.

He added: “Crews wearing breathing apparatus arrived quickly and used four hose reel jets and one nine-metre ladder to extinguish the fire.

"Firefighters remain at the scene."
