A new discounted bus ticket for teenagers offering a third off has been launched for those travelling across East Cheshire.

The council said the pass was available for residents aged 16 to 19 travelling on buses at any time. The card offers a third off the standard adult fare.

A trial of the scheme will be in place for two years and it is being funded by the Department for Transport.

Cheshire East Council said the 16 to 19 bus saver card was valid for journeys that start or finish within its borders. Care leavers aged 16 to 22 are also entitled to free travel with the pass.

The council said the smart pass would be sent out once people apply online.

Councillor Laura Crane said: "Bridging that gap between childhood and the start of adult life is a difficult enough time for a young person without having to be thinking about the affordability of getting around."
