Plans which would relocate a specialist hospice for babies and young children will be considered on Tuesday.

Zoe’s Place Baby Hospice launched an appeal earlier this year to help raise funds needed for a new £3.5m home in the West Derby area of Liverpool.

A planning application to convert the former bowling green and Victorian villa at Hayman’s Green will be examined at Liverpool Town Hall.

Zoe's Place is currently based on Yew Tree Lane but the lease is due to expire next year.

The proposed new site would feature an indoor play area with doors opening out on to an outdoor play area.

Part of the existing building would be converted into office space for fundraisers.

For almost 30 years Zoe’s Place, which also runs hospices in Coventry and Middlesbrough, has helped hundreds of families.

It supports babies and children under five with life-limiting and complex conditions.

The charity says it works "to ensure that very unwell children can enjoy the best possible quality of life and we support their families throughout their journey".

According to documents released by Liverpool City Council ahead of the planning committee meeting, the current site accommodates up to four children.

The new site would allow Zoe's Place to care for up to six children.

Last May, concerns were raised about plans to redevelop the bowling green.

But the planning application advises that the bowling club no longer competes in league games.
