Five men have been arrested after a man suffered serious head injuries when he was attacked outside a pub with metal poles.

The attack happened in Market Place, Coleford, in the Forest of Dean, at 14:30 BST on Saturday.

Gloucestershire Police said four men aged 27, 29, 34 and 52, and from Gloucester, were arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning grievous bodily harm and violent disorder, while a fifth man, aged 55 and from out of county, was also arrested on suspicion of assault wounding.

The force said all five remain in police custody, while the victim, a man in his 60s, remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Police said enquiries into the incident are continuing and anyone with information or footage is urged to get in touch.
