Police catch man up ladder during cannabis raid

A man has been jailed after growing tens of thousands of pounds worth of cannabis in what police described as a "harvesting enterprise".

Suffolk Police said it seized 158 cannabis plants and a large sum of cash after inspecting an address in Ann Beaumont Way, Hadleigh.

Officers said they found Jani Murati using a ladder to access the loft space.

The 37-year-old, of no fixed abode but from the Ipswich area, was sentenced to 10 months at Ipswich Crown Court after pleading guilty to the production of cannabis.

Following an assessment, police deemed the 158 plants would have produced between 4.4kg (155oz) and 13.2kg (465oz) of cannabis, if they had been successfully grown to harvest.

The potential value of the grow, meanwhile, would have been between £17,000 and £80,000, if sold in kilogram quantities.

Murati admitted the offence at Ipswich Magistrates’ Court shortly after being arrested on 19 August, and he was sentenced on Monday last week.

The cannabis plants were destroyed by the police, while Murati's mobile, £538 in cash and cannabis cultivation equipment were confiscated.
