A man has been charged with attempted murder after another man was shot in a town.

Hamidreza Nasiri, 30, of Holbrook Close, Enfield, north London, has been charged with attempted murder and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.

Essex Police was called to Howard Close, Waltham Abbey, Essex, at about 15:30 GMT on Sunday after receiving reports that a man had been seriously injured.

Mr Nasiri appeared at Southend Magistrates' Court on Thursday.

He has been remanded in custody until his next hearing at Basildon Crown Court on 2 January.

Following the incident a man was taken to hospital with a leg injury but police said his condition was not life-threatening.

Two more people, a 54-year-old man and 41-year-old woman, were arrested on conspiracy to commit murder.

They have since been released on bail until 18 February.
