City centre shop closes after 30 years in business

Kitchen appliance giant Aga has announced the closure of its Derby city centre store.

The AGA store in Queen Street recently marked 30 years in business but permanently closed its doors on 16 November.

In the company's full accounts report for 2023, the firm's directors said: "The company has been negatively impacted by inflation in wages, logistics, energy, raw materials and component costs."

On Monday, an AGA spokesperson said a "thorough review of our estate" resulted with the "very difficult decision to close our Derby store".

During its anniversary celebrations in October, store manager Laura Dann said: “While many high street stores have come and gone, we’ve remained committed to offering the highest level of service and expertise, and we couldn’t have done it without the support of our loyal customers.”

A month since then, the AGA Rangemaster firm, which is headquartered in Long Eaton, said "many businesses in the home improvement sector have faced challenges in recent times".

"As the economic outlook improves, we remain committed to expanding our presence and firmly believe AGA has an enduring future in retail stores," it added
