Firefighters have tackled a fire in a building containing batteries at a recycling facility at an industrial park.

Several fire crews were sent to Crescent Works Industrial Park on Willenhall Road, Darlaston, shortly before 03:30 BST on Tuesday.

West Midlands Fire Service said 10 fire engines were dispatched to the blaze which was affecting "several pallets at a recycling facility".

No casualties or injuries were reported, the fire service added and people were urged to avoid the area where possible with residents nearby told to keep their doors and windows closed.

The fire was also affecting traffic on Willenhall Road.

"We are expected to remain at this incident for some time, working to extinguish the fire fully," a spokesperson added.

An update from the fire service at 10:00 BST said the blaze was thought to have started accidentally, with the building containing a large number of batteries.

A spokesperson added: "We have scaled down our resources at this incident.

"Three fire engines and a 4×4 brigade response vehicle remain at the scene, damping down to ensure no hotspots remain."
