Hundreds turn out for WW2 themed carnival

Hundreds of people turned out at Alsager Carnival as the event adopted a World War Two theme to mark the 80th anniversary of D-Day.

Saturday’s carnival began with a parade through the Cheshire town at midday, with floats featuring a makeshift tank, poppies, planes and participants wearing military uniforms.

The rest of the event took place at Milton Park which hosted a range of activities including fairground rides, toy stalls and a motorbike stunt show.

One visitor described it as “wonderful” and said it was important the town could hold a carnival each year.

“It was nice to see local kids on rides and doing what kids do best and having a great time. It was lovely," she added.
