Police will continue to have enhanced powers in Walsall following a late-night shooting and stabbing that left four people hurt.

West Midlands Police said its use of stop and search powers was extended across parts of the town until 10:00 BST on Sunday.

After the attack on Wednesday, a man was treated at the scene for bullet wounds while three others suffered stab wounds in Reedswood Lane, Birchills.

A 16-year-old boy arrested on suspicion of attempted murder remained in custody, police said.

The Section 60 stop and search powers were brought in earlier this week following the attack near the junction of Old Birchills and Reedswood Lane.

A spokesperson for the force said: "The powers have been extended until 10:00 [on Sunday] and allow us to stop and search people without the need to have reasonable grounds."
