A section of the M5 will close overnight for a month to allow emergency repair work to be carried out.

Concrete repairs will be undertaken on the Almondsbury bridge deck to install new joints, affecting J14 for Falfield Intercharge and J17 for Cribbs Causeway.

Work is being carried out overnight to minimise disruption and closures and diversions will be in place from 21:00 BST until 05:00.

National Highways said there would be multiple overnight closures starting from now and work was scheduled to be completed on 23 May.

Drivers are warned of M5 closures on:

  • Saturday 27 April from 17-J14 northbound
  • Sunday 28 April from J14-17 northbound and southbound
  • Monday 29 April from J14-J17 northbound and southbound
  • Tuesday 30 April to Thursday 23 May J14-J17 northbound and southbound, Monday to Friday only

Motorists are advised to plan their journeys and allow extra travel time due to the diversions in place.

During the day, the motorway will be open as usual.

A spokesperson from National Highways said: "We’ll make every effort to ensure the impact on the local community is kept to a minimum, and apologise in advance for any inconvenience these works may cause.

"Please accept our apologies for the late notice of tonight’s closure on this occasion."
