A lorry carrying animal feed burst into flames on the Devon-Cornwall border.

Firefighters were called to tackle the blaze on the A30 in Lifton at about 12:05 BST on Wednesday.

Devon and Somerset Fire Service crews were assisted by engines from Tavistock and Okehampton and the flames were extinguished by 13:45, a fire spokesperson said.

Devon and Cornwall Police also closed the westbound carriageway while the fire was dealt with.

The fire service said crews remained at the scene to carry out damping down work and monitor potential hotspots.

The cause of the blaze is believed to be accidental, it added.

National Highways said on X, formerly Twitter, that the westbound carriageway remained closed between the junctions with the A386 in Sourton Down and the A388 in Launceston until about 03:00.

It added one westbound lane would remain closed for most of Thursday for emergency resurfacing works.
