Warning to residents after lithium battery fire

People have been advised to keep their windows and doors closed after a fire involving lithium batteries.

Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue were called to the fire at a commercial premises on Langrick Road in Coningsby at 04:26 BST on 8 July.

"A quantity of lithium batteries and cabling that are well alight" were involved in the incident, the fire service said.

As of 09:35 BST, two fire appliances were in attendance from Horncastle and Woodhall Spa.

Lithium-iron batteries are often found in small, rechargeable devices such as toothbrushes, toys, phones and laptops.

The Environmental Services Association had previously said mixing lithium batteries with household rubbish or recycling "causes a real problem" as they can "explode or ignite" when damaged.
