Far North Line reopens after sea defence repairs

Damage to the Highlands' Far North Line caused by high spring tides has been repaired and the line reopened.

The line between Brora and Helmsdale was closed on Monday after parts of the railway's sea defences at Lothbeg were washed away.

The closure caused cancellations to some connections along the route between Inverness and Wick and Thurso.

Network Rail Scotland engineers carried out repairs and line was reopened shortly after 11:00 on Friday.

For safety, a 20mph speed restriction has been put in place for services through the affected area.

High tides combined with an east wind over the weekend also saw Golspie's golf course swamped by waves, leaving parts of it looking like a loch.
