Free bike lights and reflective gear are being handed out as part of a cycling safety campaign.

Bike Lights for Dark Nights, funded by the Humberside Police and Crime Commissioner, will see a series of information events held at busy commuter routes around the city.

Council workers, police officers and Safer Roads Humber staff will give out advice as well as the safety accessories.

Department for Transport figures show that 15,000 cyclists were injured on UK roads in 2023, with 92 fatalities.

Councillor Mark Ieronimo said that road safety “is everybody’s responsibility".

"Cyclists should aim to be as visible as possible when riding around the city," he said.

"But it is also important that motorists and all members of the travelling public look out for each other, too."

Five events will take place during December and January, with locations and dates announced later.
