A man has died following a stabbing in Plymouth, police have confirmed.

Devon and Cornwall Police said officers were called to Cambridge Road at about 14:30 GMT on Monday after receiving reports a man had been stabbed.

In an update issued on Tuesday, the force said a 36-year-old man from Plymouth was pronounced dead at the scene and a murder investigation had been launched.

Det Ch Insp Steve Fleetwood, the senior investigating officer in the case, said cordons remained in place and officers were searching for two men.

Weapon seized

He added that the men's identities were known to police and "inquiries are ongoing to find them".

Det Ch Insp Fleetwood said there would be a "heightened police presence" over the coming days as officers gather evidence to "bring an offender to justice for the victim’s family".

"At this time, I would like to reassure the community and further afield in Plymouth that there is no suggestion that there is a wider risk to members of the public," he said.

Det Ch Insp Fleetwood added a weapon potentially used in the incident had been seized. He confirmed it was "not any form of firearm".
