Police are trying to identify a "disgraceful" group of teenagers who vandalised a charity food collection point at a supermarket.

The gang went into Tesco on Eagle Street in Accrington and took food that had been donated for vulnerable people, Lancashire Police said.

They threw it all over the floor and kicked it about "to the point it was unusable".

The force said some of the girls in the gang were from the Clayton area of the town, and appealed for information about the others.

'Disrespect and disregard'

A spokesman said the youths acted with "total disrespect and disregard towards the most vulnerable people of Accrington and the good people who have donated items".

"We know that some of the girls in the group are from the Clayton area of Accrington and we are currently trying to identify some of the group so we can deal with them appropriately," he said.

"However, parents of these children need to take more responsibility and know where their children are and the problems they are causing."

The force said officers had been "constantly called out to antisocial behaviour" reports across Hyndburn in the last few weeks.
