Police puppy named after 'much-loved' officer

A new police dog has been named in memory of a "much-loved" police constable who died from cancer.

PC Mark Perry, who worked for Warwickshire Police, died in August, at the age of 32.

The newest member of the force's dog section, a black Labrador who has just started training as a specialist drugs dog, has now been named PD Perry in his honour.

Sgt Stacey Naughton said: "PC Perry dedicated much of his life to helping people, and PD Perry is set to carry on his namesake’s tradition, tackling crime across the county and protecting Warwickshire’s residents."

PC Perry began his career as a volunteer special constable, before crewing up with retired dog handler PC John Hankinson, so colleagues though it was "only fitting" the new recruit was named in his honour, a police spokesperson added.
