High Street plans amended after objections

Plans to revamp a Kent High Street have been amended after residents objected.

Developers Parklake Estates Ltd had previously proposed building up to 75 homes, including blocks of flats, on Rochester High Street, in Medway.

But concerns at a public consultation about a possible lack of parking has since led to a scaled-down re-design.

Medway Council has now received an application to demolish several buildings on the site and replace them with 28 houses.

A former bed retail store, an evangelical church and empty factory outlets will all be demolished.

The church, called RockChurch Kent, is to be relocated.

The proposals would also increase the number of parking spaces from 20 to 36 and add 32 cycle spaces.

According to Parklake, the designs for the homes - five two-beds, 11 three-beds, and 10 four-beds and two five-beds - will fit in with the character of the local area.

Each property will have a back garden, and there will also be a shared garden, a section of which will be open to the public.

The application is currently being considered by Medway Council planning officers and may go before councillors for a decision in the future.
