Duck wardens conduct safety patrols in town

A community has been created to help ducks cross a busy road each night.

A group of nature lovers in Thirsk have come together to protect a flock of ducks.

Around 30 of the birds have been making trips into the town centre for the night for the last two months.

Coming up from the river, they have had several run-ins with cars while crossing the roads, leading to the deaths of two ducks and two ducklings.

Now a local group has been established with duck wardens in place to help the birds get to safety.

Its members have also asked the local council for signage to warn drivers of the ducks' presence.
