The University of Plymouth has announced that about 200 jobs may be affected as part of budget cuts.

In a statement, the organisation said it was operating in "a very financially-challenging environment."

With a 10% drop in income, the university said it must act in order to cut budgets.

It added: "As things stand, the proposals we're considering could affect about 200 roles but this is subject to change as we consult with colleagues and trade unions."

It added: "We are doing everything we can to make savings and avoid compulsory redundancies whilst protecting the quality of our student experience, which is our number one priority."

The University of Plymouth, which has two main campuses, has more than 2,500 staff and 19,000 students.
