Woman charged with attempting to murder two police

A woman has been charged with attempting to murder two police officers.
Cumbria Police was called to a property at Lister Court, in the Raffles area of Carlisle, at 09:30 BST on Wednesday, where an occupant allegedly assaulted the officers with a knife.
A female officer suffered injuries to her face, which were described as non-life threatening, and a male officer suffered a hand injury.
Hannah Smaile, 25, of Bank Head, Brocklebank, was charged with two counts of attempted murder and appeared before magistrates on Thursday.
She was also charged with threatening a person with a knife in a private place.
Ms Smaile was told the charges against her were so serious they would have to be dealt with at Carlisle Crown Court on 30 June.
She will be remanded in custody until then.
Both officers had since been discharged from hospital, the force said, and were receiving support.
Ch Supt Andy Wilkinson said: "Our officers and staff work incredibly hard to keep people in Cumbria safe.
"Police officers, like everyone else in society, should be able to go to work without fear of being assaulted."
