A four-year-old girl has died and two people are in hospital after a house fire.

Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service was called to an address in Kingsley Road in Lynemouth, Northumberland, shortly before 21:30 GMT on Monday and found the girl inside.

Despite efforts by emergency service workers, she died at the scene.

A woman in her 20s and a two-year-old girl are in hospital in a stable condition, Northumbria Police said.

Det Ch Insp Louise Jenkins said: "All of our thoughts and condolences are with her family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.

"Enquiries remain at a very early stage, and with the support of our partners from Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service we are determined to establish exactly what happened."
