Sign describing place as town and village removed

A new location sign had to be replaced 24 hours after being installed after it referred to a place as both a town and a village.

The new sign for the market town of Attleborough, Norfolk, caused some amusement to local residents on social media, including dog walker, Kevin Vincent.

"It's quite funny," he said. "But it's a good thing the sign is being replaced."

Norfolk County Council, which is responsible for the road's signage, said: "This was an error by the manufacturer of the sign, it was rectified within 24 hours of the sign being installed at no extra expense to Norfolk County Council."

The sign was erected on Thursday and removed on Friday, the council said.

The new gateway sign, which was originally installed in part to remind motorists to observe the speed limits in the area, was requested by Attleborough Town Council.
