A week of closures, to "reconstruct" one of Hull's busiest roads, will start on Monday, the council has said.

Hull City Council said the "essential work" on Holderness Road, between Mount Pleasant and Burleigh Street, will be carried out two phases.

The first will see outbound lane closures until 30 November, while phase two will see an outbound road closure on 1 and 2 December.

Councillor Mark Ieronimo, portfolio holder for transportation, roads and highways, said the work would "help keep the road safe and reliable" while "futureproofing" the city's road network.

"I would also like to apologise in advance for any disruptions these works may cause, particularly to businesses and residents of Holderness Road," he added.

Access for residents and businesses will be maintained and footpaths will remain open. Bin collections are also scheduled to continue as normal.

A signed diversion route will be in place for motorists via Mount Pleasant, Old Hedon Road, Southcoates and Holderness Road.
