A bar and restaurant in Digbeth has had its licence suspended after a man was seriously injured in a shooting.

West Midlands Police applied for the license of the Blue Tick Bar and Grill on Moseley Road to be reviewed, following an attack on 27 November.

Police said a man in his 30s was shot at about 00:20 GMT and taken to hospital with a gunshot wound to the stomach.

Birmingham City Council’s licensing sub-committee agreed that the suspension was needed in order to investigate the "serious crime".

The man's injuries were not life-threatening.

The O and K Café, trading under The Blue Tick Bar and Grill, had a licence to sell alcohol between 12:00 and midnight, seven days a week.

In a statement requesting the review on 28 November, Supt Emily Richards said: "A serious incident has occurred at the premises whereby a person has been seriously injured."

"The premises have not informed the police of this incident."

The force requested for the premises license be suspended and the designated premises supervisor to be removed.

Both requests were upheld by the sub-committee and the review will be held within 28 days of the police's request.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward and investigations are ongoing.
