A Japanese macaque's breakout from a Scottish wildlife park has spawned a whole troop of creative online memes and AI-generated images.

The monkey, called Honshu, was on the loose for more than five days after escaping on Sunday.

He was eventually captured on Thursday morning and returned to the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland's Highland Wildlife Park near Kincraig.

Honshu's time "on the run" has led to images being made of him fleeing from police, and even mocked up as Aberdeen FC's new manager following the sacking of Barry Robson.

Some of those sharing the images on social media nicknamed Honshu King-craig Kong, a play on the location of the wildlife park and the fictional giant gorilla King Kong.

Honshu is expected to be reintroduced to his troop following a health check.
