A popular annual countryside walk has opened for its 52nd year.

The Arlington Bluebell Walk, based at Bates Green Farm in Tye Hill Road, Polegate, has raised more than £1m since it began in 1972.

Organiser John McCutchan said the walk had opened one week earlier than usual to welcome as many people as possible.

"We hope for five dry weeks, although I know that's probably not going to happen," he said.

The Arlington Bluebell Walk, which raises funds through admissions, offers visitors a chance to walk through Beatons Wood to view the bluebells and stroll around the five farm trails, while children can visit animal pens at the farms.

This year, it will be raising money for 28 charities, including Children's Respite Trust, Chestnut Tree House Children's Hospice, Children With Cancer Fund, St Wilfrid's Hospice and Heron's Ghyll Driving for the Disabled.

Mr McCutchan added: "I am the fortunate custodian of this woodland, and to share it with others who appreciate it is a great privilege."

Mr McCutchan said he his team try to make changes to enhance visitor experience each year.

"For 2025, there is a new efficient and improved system to serve hot food and drinks. There is also a new farm walks map with better signage," he said.

The Arlington Bluebell Walk is open every day until 8 May.
