Man arrested after pedestrian struck on A-road

A man has been arrested after a pedestrian was hit by a car on a major road.

Hertfordshire Police was called at about 05:50 GMT to reports of a collision on the A41 southbound near Berkhamsted, near the junction for Chesham, Buckinghamshire.

A black Range Rover Velar had hit a man in his 30s, who was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Another man, in his 40s, was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless driving and remains in custody.

The road was closed in both directions between Tring and Berkhamsted.

Sgt Luke Jenkins, from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Road Policing Unit, said: "Our inquiries are continuing, and I am appealing for anyone with information to please come forward."
