Swimming warning lifted from Thanet beaches

Advice to avoid bathing in waters on several beaches in Thanet has been lifted, according to a council.

The warning was put in place at Minnis Bay, West Bay, St Mildred’s Bay and Westbrook Bay on Thursday after what Thanet District Council (TDC) described as "dark organic matter" was washed up.

TDC said on Friday afternoon it was now removing all the warning signs from its beaches.

The latest incident came less than 24 hours after TDC gave the all-clear for swimming at Minnis Bay after an unrelated incident.

It followed the discovery of dead ragworms, lugworms and shellfish on 20 May.
