Affordable homes planned on former library site
The former Merstham library building could become 11 shared-ownership homes under plans due to be decided by councillors.
A planning application for the demolition of the existing single storey building and the construction of new homes has been submitted by Raven Housing Trust.
The Weldon Way site was left empty when the library relocated to Merstham Community Hub in 2017, and was bought by the trust in 2021.
Current plans are for 11 homes, reduced from the 14 previously proposed.
A medieval moated site to the west of the proposed development has been a consideration during the drawing up of the plans.
They have been adapted by the applicant following concerns about the new homes overlooking the historic monument land and the impact on views from within it.
Officers recommend approval of the application.
It is due to be decided by Reigate and Banstead Borough Council's planning committee on Wednesday.
