Extra £1.1m for doubled swimming pool costs
A further £1.1m has been approved towards the reopening of Aberdeen's Bucksburn Swimming Pool, after the cost more than doubled.
The pool closed its doors as part of the city council's budget cuts last year, however the local authority later overturned its decision.
This year's budget included £1m for recommissioning work, including to reduce the pool's energy costs.
However the building's internal fabric has deteriorated significantly, and an additional £1.1m has now been agreed by the finance and resource committee.
Committee convener Alex McLellan said: “Aberdeen City Council is committed to carrying out works to upgrade the facility before re-opening the Bucksburn Swimming Pool, so additional resource has been allocated to the project.
“The works will ensure it is a real asset for the community for years to come."
