Warehouse plans on farmland given go-ahead

Plans to build eight warehouses near Basingstoke have been given the go-ahead.

The warehouses will sit within six buildings at Oakdown Farm, Dummer, off junction 7 of the M3.

Previous applications by developer Newlands were turned down and the last one was rejected by the Planning Inspectorate following an appeal.

Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council approved an updated planning application for the scheme on Wednesday.

The latest plans were revised to reduce the height and size of the warehouses.

Newlands Developments said the scheme - expected to be built in phases - would create more than 1,000 jobs once complete.

Three buildings, along with a number of outbuildings, will be demolished to make way for the warehouses.

The warehouse site is adjacent to a shortlisted site for a new hospital.
