Swimming pool reopens after repairs forced closure

A swimming pool in Surrey has reopened after it was forced to close due to concerns about its ceiling.
Cranleigh Leisure Centre was forced to close on January 14 after ceiling tiles were found to be faulty, leading to weeks of repairs.
Now, the leisure centre has since been able to reopen both of its swimming pools earlier this week and is set to relaunch lessons on Thursday after more than three months.
A spokesperson for the leisure centre, run by Everyone Active, said it had been "working extremely hard to resolve the issues" with Waverley Borough Council and thanked pool users for their patience.
Repairs on the pool began in February and were expected to take about eight weeks.
Normal pool use is beginning again after a series of sessions for swimming lesson members on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
Following the closure members of the Cranleigh Amateur Swimming Club expressed their concerns for its future after the pool closure meant it lost its training facilities.
The club was forced to postpone its March swimming gala, which had been estimated to bring in £12,500, due to the closure.
Club chairperson Andrew Stewart said the gala was "how we keep the club solvent", adding increasing leisure centre fees had caused a strain on the club.
A council spokesperson previously said it was "operating in a finite budget and building footprint so we need to strike a balance in meeting the needs of all users of the leisure centre".
Its next meet at the leisure centre is scheduled for 18 May.
