New addition to roundabout's giant hedgehog family
There is a new addition to the group of award-winning wooden hedgehogs stationed on a roundabout in Truro.
Truro City Council has introduced the newest member of the family on Trafalgar roundabout as Harlyn.
A spokesperson said he was now "part of the family with his parents Denzel and Patricia, brother Cyril and sister Kizzy".
In 2019 the giant wooden hedgehogs helped the city win the accolade of best roundabout in the UK, awarded by the Roundabout Appreciation Society.
The council said Truro mayor Carol Swain had received suggestions for the hedgehog's name from pupils at the Archbishop Benson School. She chose Harlyn "for its Cornish emphasis".
The hedgehogs were created by artist Emma Scott at her studio at the Willow Craft Centre in St Issey.
Last April the wooden hedgehogs were restored after birds used their coco fibre faces for nesting material.
One of the hedgehogs starred at the Royal Chelsea Flower Show in May 2024.
