Supermarket applies for store in new flats
Tesco is set to move into the ground floor of a new town centre apartment block next to a railway station.
The Pullman House development, in Rochester, includes 64 flats and two retail spaces on the ground floor.
A new application for details of one of the units at 88 Corporation Street was submitted by Tesco Stores Ltd on 9 October.
The development was billed as being part of Medway’s first “car-free homes” when it was first approved, as the flats will not come with any parking spaces.
However, at the time, Leander Homes Ltd said this type of development had a market for people who commute locally or into London.
They cited the close proximity to Rochester Train Station as a benefit for this kind of buyer, the Local Democracy Reporting Service said.
The application made by Tesco for the unit is being considered by planning officers currently, who will likely make a decision without having to consult councillors.
The application is due to be decided by 4 December.
