A man in his 60s has died after a suspected hit and run, police have said.

He was found with significant injuries on the A38 Wellington New Road in Taunton just before 01:00 GMT.

The man, believed to be a pedestrian, was pronounced dead at the scene and the force is trying to trace his next of kin, Avon and Somerset Police said.

The A38 between the Silk Mills Road and Galmington Road junctions was closed for investigations earlier and has since reopened.

A police spokesperson added: "We'd like to hear from anyone who was in the area between midnight and 01:00 GMT on Monday 13 January who may have relevant information or dashcam or other footage."
