A charity auction being held in Surrey has received a range of fashion donations from celebrities, including 007 actor Daniel Craig and model Kate Moss.

They are among the stars giving clothing items to the Diary of a Wardrobe auction in aid of the end-of-life charity Marie Curie.

Lots include Kate Moss's Louboutin heels, ski goggles worn by explorer Sir Ranulph Fiennes and a jersey worn on stage by Daniel Craig.

The event is the brainchild of actress Jane Horrocks, who has been working with Marie Curie for years and said it is a great charity as “families are very much included in the death process”.

The Absolutely Fabulous star, who has donated a pair of Prada shoes and a Dolce & Gabbana dress, said the auction was "special" as the items will be personalised and come with an added extra like a message or photograph from the celebrity.

Ms Horrocks was working with the charity when her mother died but had not asked for help at the time, which she said she would have done “in hindsight”.

She said she was asked to leave the room so the carers could prepare her body following her death and found the process “really hard” and "not very inclusive or compassionate".

She added: “I wish I’d have talked to Marie Curie about about this before my mum did die.

She believes that death "should be talked about more and possibly not feared in the way that the Western world seems to fear it".

The idea of the auction came to her while she was clearing out her own clothes.

“I then thought, ‘Oh, it’s quite a small auction if it’s just my clothes’,” she said.

“So, then me and the people at Marie Curie reached out to many other people," she said.

Other donation have been made by Dame Shirley Bassey, Dame Joanna Lumley, Dame Julie Walters, Emma Thompson, Lulu, Jessie Ware and Jim Moir (aka Vic Reeves).

Marie Curie chief executive Matthew Reed said: "It's wonderful to have such a special and unique concept created in aid of Marie Curie."

He said the proceeds from the auction would "go directly to helping Marie Curie be there for more dying people and those closest to them – at home, in our hospices, or over the phone."

The Diary of a Wardrobe auction will be held on 19 September at Ewbank's Auctions in Woking, Surrey.
