A council has triggered emergency measures to support rough sleepers due to the cold weather.

Peterborough City Council issued its severe weather emergency provision on Tuesday, meaning registered rough sleepers will be provided with accommodation.

The measure will initially remain in place until 23 November, but the authority said this would be reviewed daily.

It said people sleeping rough without access to a phone could go to New Haven in Towler Street in order to access support.

The council added that its outreach team would "continue to look for and reach out to rough sleepers at various times of the day and night".

The authority has issued a number for anyone needing support - or if you are concerned about a rough sleeper. It is 01733 864064 (or 01733 864157 after 18:00).
