Shoplifter jailed after targeting store twice a day

A woman who spent six months targeting a shop that she sometimes stole from twice a day has been jailed.

Shannah Everitt, 29, shoplifted almost £4,000 worth of goods from a BP service station in Ongar Road, Pilgrims Hatch, Essex, between June and the start of this month.

She was arrested in London on 6 December for a shop burglary in the capital. At Barkingside Magistrates' Court on Monday she admitted to that offence and 32 shop thefts in Essex.

Everitt, of no fixed address, was jailed for 20 weeks.

The court was told she regularly visited the service station to steal and "often twice a day", Essex Police said.

She would place food in shopping bags, hide items under clothing or carry them out of the door and the thefts were recorded on CCTV, the force said.

PC Elliot Harris said: "We take shoplifting very seriously. It has a detrimental impact on businesses and the wider community.

"Clear store CCTV footage helps us to build strong cases for court by assisting us in identifying offenders and placing them at the scene of their crimes.

"It often leaves offenders with no choice but to admit their guilt at the first available opportunity, as happened in this case."
