A driver has been arrested after a cyclist died following a collision in Gloucester on Saturday.

Gloucestershire Police said officers were called to Castlemeads Way shortly before 21.15 BST after reports of a collision between a Volkswagen Golf and a cyclist.

"Despite the best efforts of members of the public and emergency services, the cyclist, an 18-year-old man, was declared deceased at the scene. His next of kin have been informed," the force said.

A 23-year-old man from Newent was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

A road closure was put in place while emergency services remained at the scene, but this has now been lifted.

Officers investigating the incident are keen to hear from anyone who may have witnessed it, or who may have dashcam footage.

The arrested man remains in custody.
