Horse rescued after becoming trapped in silt
A horse has been rescued after it became trapped 1.2m (4ft) down a river embankment in Staffordshire.
Multiple crews, including animal rescue and water rescue teams, were called to land off Trent Lane, Ingestre, near Stafford, just before 09:45 GMT on Wednesday.
The rescue took several hours, the fire service said, with crews leaving the scene shortly before 14:30.
They said they found the exhausted animal trapped in silt in about a metre (3ft) of water.
The horse was brought to safety using specialist equipment and assessed at the scene by a vet.
It was returned to stables afterwards and will be monitored over the coming days, the fire service added.
