Several roads will either be closed or have restricted access when a charity running event returns to Leicester.

The Leicester 10K will be held on 2 March, organised by Jane Tomlinson's Run For All, a not-for-profit events company.

Starting in Jubilee Square at 09:00 GMT, runners will head through the city centre towards Victoria Park and through the University of Leicester campus before the route takes them back to the starting point.

The affected roads will be closed from as early as 08:15 until 11:30 on 2 March, with parking suspensions in place from 16:00 the day before until 13:00 on the day of the event.

Road closures in the area near Jubilee Square will begin at 05:00 on 2 March and run until 13:00.

The event is partnered with charities including LAMP (Leicestershire Action for Mental Health Project), Leicester City in the Community and Leicester Tigers Foundation.

The roads affected will include:

  • A594 St George's Way
  • A5894 Waterloo Way
  • A6 London Road (only one lane closed)
  • Belvoir Street
  • Bishop Street
  • De Montfort Street
  • Granby Street
  • Granville Road
  • Grey Friars
  • Horsefair Street
  • Hotel Street
  • Market Place
  • Market Place South
  • Mayors Walk
  • New Street
  • Peacock Lane
  • Regent Road
  • St Martins
  • University Road
  • Welford Road (only one lane closed)

Victoria Park Road will be completely open as runners will use the cycle path.

Organisers say all road closures will be lifted as soon as the safety of runners, spectators and visitors can be assured.

Tristan Batley-Kyle, operations director at Jane Tomlinson's Run For All, said: "We look forward to welcoming participants of all abilities to take on the Leicester 10K.

"Unfortunately, with an event of this size, a certain amount of disruption is unavoidable and we would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused."
