Army apology after soldiers seen in Nazi costumes

The British Army has "apologised unreservedly" following reports of two soldiers dressed in Nazi uniform at a local Halloween party.

The servicemen are reportedly from the Queens Royal Hussars, based in Tidworth, Wiltshire.

“As soon as they became aware of the incident, the unit’s chain of command acted immediately to inform the Royal Military Police and a formal investigation is now under way" said an army spokesperson.

The army did not give names of individuals, but said "their actions demonstrated serious and significant shortfalls in judgement and conduct."

A Daily Mail online report about the incident included pictures of two men in military dress uniform featuring swastika armbands and caps with Nazi symbols on them.

“We apologise unreservedly for the unacceptable behaviour of these two individuals and the offence that it will undoubtedly cause," a military spokesperson added.

The Queen's Royal Hussars is a senior armoured regiment that uses battle tanks.

The regiment is based at Tidworth, in Wiltshire, next to the Salisbury plain training area.
