More no stopping 'red routes' planned for city

More no stopping 'red routes' could be introduced on roads in Brighton and Hove under council plans to extend the scheme.
Brighton & Hove City Council said it would recommend a new red route in Western Road between Montpelier Road and Holland Road, by Palmeira Square.
The route means vehicles can be fined up to £70 for stopping, parking, loading or unloading.
The council said it would also explore a fourth red route in the city, in Queens Road, following on from schemes in London Road and Lewes Road introduced in 2024.
Traders and businesses had previously hit out at the red routes, saying they were "a nightmare" for receiving deliveries.
The council said it had been meeting with affected businesses "regularly" and had since added five additional loading bays and a motorcycle bay for food delivery bikes around London Road and Lewes Road.
Red routes, which are policed through CCTV cameras, aim to clamp down on anti-social parking and cut congestion, the council added.
Trevor Muten, cabinet member for transport and parking, said: "We've had a lot of positive feedback from public transport operators, cyclists and residents about the new Red Routes on London Road and Lewes Road. They've made travelling in those areas safer and journeys less congested and more reliable.
"Western Road is an area where we see a lot of anti-social parking. A Red Route here would go a long way in helping to keep this busy part of the city safe and moving, and we'll be consulting with residents and businesses in the area later in the year to make sure we get it right."
A date has yet to be confirmed for when the Western Road red route could be introduced.
Plans will go before the council cabinet on Thursday.
