Police have released an e-fit of a man following reports of a rape after a man pushed his way into a woman's home.

The incident happened at an address in a road near the centre of Hastings, shortly before 19:00 GMT on Saturday when the man, who was not known to the victim, called at the house.

The suspect is described as white, between 20 and 30 years old and wearing a black hooded jumper, tracksuit bottoms and a snood.

Det Insp Amanda Zinyama said: "The nature of the offence is extremely unusual and we continue to work to identify this man."

Although police say they have no information that links the person to any other incident, officers have urged residents to be cautious about people acting suspiciously in the area, and when answering their doors to unexpected callers.

Ms Zinyama said: "We appreciate that this will cause concern among the local community and, in addition to a dedicated investigation team, we have increased patrols in the area to provide visibility and reassurance."

Officers have also been working to get doorbell and other CCTV footage from the area while carrying out house-to-house enquiries.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Sussex Police.
