American thrash metal band Slayer will play Cardiff this summer, it has been announced.

The group known for its fast and aggressive style of music will take to the stage at the capital's Blackweir Fields on 3 July.

The outdoor gig will be the band's first UK performance in six years.

Slayer will also perform as a support act for Black Sabbath's last-ever show at Villa Park later in the month.

'Make the city rock'

The Slayer gig is one of several at the new city centre venue this year with the Kings of Leon and Alanis Morissette also headlining.

Oasis and Sir Tom Jones have also announced shows in the city over the summer.

Promoter Nick Saunders said: "Bringing Slayer to Cardiff along with this incredible line-up of special guests and support artists is going to make for a huge night at Blackweir and we can't wait to hear them all well and truly make the city rock."

Slayer will be supported by legendary metal band Anthrax and Danish newcomers, Neckbreakker.
